Green aventurine is quartz with tiny flakes of mica or hematite suspended inside, which is what gives it its soft glitter — the same effect that gave the mineral its name, from the Italian "a ventura," by chance. The green sits with wood in the Five Elements scheme, the element of growth. This is a plain 8 mm strand on elastic cord, an inexpensive way to wear a green stone. Aventurine is a variety of quartz rather than a mineral in its own right. The sparkle — called aventurescence — comes from flat inclusions that reflect light like tiny mirrors; in green aventurine those inclusions are usually fuchsite, a green mica. The name comes from an accident in 18th-century Venetian glassmaking, where copper filings dropped into molten glass produced a similar spangled effect.
The stone is common and inexpensive, and we have priced it that way. It makes a good first bracelet if you are deciding whether you like green stones before spending more on jade.
