There are two minerals sold as jade, and the distinction matters both for price and for what you are told you are buying. Nephrite — the material of Chinese carvings, of the Han dynasty discs and the Qing court pieces — is a calcium magnesium silicate, tougher than steel in thin sections. Jadeite is a different mineral, harder and denser, prized for the vivid emerald-green of the best Burmese material. We sell nephrite and say so.
This bangle is grey-green. Beads and bangles in the brighter, more translucent greens are several times the price of this one, and any seller offering that colour at this price is selling treated stone or something else entirely.
Small internal lines are visible in most nephrite and are part of the stone rather than damage. We photograph the exact characteristics of each piece where possible.
