The eight trigrams — qian, kun, zhen, xun, kan, li, gen, dui — are the building blocks of the I Ching, and arranging them in a ring around a centre is a composition that appears on roofs, doorways and small metalwork across China. The centre here is polished brass rather than glass, so the piece reflects light softly rather than giving a true image.
The frame is a single brass casting with the trigram bars in relief. It is heavy for its size — check the fixing before hanging.
