A 54-bead strand is a half mala, and it exists for a practical reason: 108 beads is a long loop to carry, and half the count works just as well if you are tracking two circuits rather than one. The brass counters are small sliding beads that let you keep a tally beyond the main strand — a mechanical aid, in the same family as an abacus or a tally stick.
We have put "Tibetan style" in the name deliberately and want to be clear about it: this describes the form and the fittings, not an origin. The strand is made in Zhejiang province, and describing it in a way that implied Tibetan manufacture would be misleading. Buddhist goods are a category where that kind of implication is common, and it is not one we are willing to make.
The tassel is knotted cotton rather than silk, because this strand is meant to be carried in a pocket and a silk tassel would not survive that.
