Green sandalwood is a dense South American hardwood with a faint olive-green tone and a subtle scent, and the colour shifts with exposure to light — a new strand is usually paler than a well-kept one a year old, which is part of the appeal.
It is a heavy wood for its size, so an 8 mm strand has a satisfying weight. Like all 108 malas it carries three marker beads and a guru bead to divide the counting into quarters.
