A tiered pagoda in solid brass — nine or thirteen storeys on an octagonal base. The pagoda form is a staple of Chinese metalwork and appears on desks in studies and offices. This one is cast in sections and assembled, with each tier level.

Pagodas are one of the few architectural forms that became a decorative object in their own right. In metalwork the stacked-tier version is common: each storey cast separately with its own roof, then threaded onto a central rod and pegged so the tiers sit level.
This one is assembled that way, and the joints show a fine seam if you look closely — that is the construction, not a defect. Solid brass, with the base octagonal so it stands flat. The 26 cm version is the best balanced of the sizes.
