A lotus pod makes a natural tea pet: it is a rounded shape with a flat base, and the dimples where the seeds sit give the surface somewhere for tea to collect and stain. The form is common in Chinese decorative clay work.
Made in Yixing clay and left unglazed. Rinse it in plain hot water before the first use to clear any kiln dust, then just let it take the rinse water as you brew. It will darken; that is the practice, not damage.
